Hi everybody. I am in a very small town and can't find a support network (AA, NA) that keeps me sober. I had a sponsor but she wasn't a big help either. I want to stay clean and I am hoping the web can help. Does anyone have any suggesstions?

Hi and welcome!
When the other site comes back up, which should be later today, I hope you will join us over there as we have a great deal of support and friendship to offer as well as online meetings. Something I might want to address for you to think about though. You said you can't find anything to keep you sober. Well, bad news, nothing and no one can keep you sober except you! Sure there is AA, Counselors,Church, Therapy, but ultimatly you have to want it bad enough to do whatever it takes to keep you in sobriety. I have this wonderful board of friends and family, I use my sponsor to bounce my thoughts off of and ask for her guidance, and I use the fellowship of AA as a sounding board for my concerns, frustration, good and bad days. So though there is a great deal of support to be had, ultimatly it's you that keeps you sober, on day at a time, and some day's it just aint' pretty! You have us now! Whatever it takes my friend! |

hey there,
my name is dot and im an addict. this is a great place for support and encouragement. but like chy said, it comes down to a personal decision. first, do you feel you are an addict? alcoholic? second, do you want to get clean and sober? third, are you willing to do whatever it takes to get and stay clean and sober? lots of stuff to think about. for me, it took hitting my bottom. and i spent many months alone and lonely, but still clean. i wanted it bad. and i did not want to just go hang out with the old playmates at the old playgrounds anymore. even though they are all around me as i still live in the same place. just remember that it gets better in time! i hope you are able to find some support group somewhere. have you thought about a drug/alco counselor? anywho, welcome! and once the other site is up and running there will be a lot more support and encouragement for ya. hugs, dot |

I have thought about calling her again. I think I stopped going to meetings (after 2 years sobriety) because I did not make any real connections or friendships. I am 27 single, and a minority who relocated from urban Florida to rural Appalachia. The area is all white, culturally desolate and poverty stricken. The only sober women here are my mothers age, with families and have no time to spend talking with me. I only talked with my sponsor when I initiated it and the conversations never lasted long because she was too busy.
Other than her, there is this unpenatrable clique. I went to founders day with them but no one talked to me for more than 30 seconds the whole weekend, then they literally yelled at me when I asked them why they ignored me. I have been starving for some commoradery, strength and hope since I moved here. I want to stay clean but I can't do it alone! When I was in Florida people in the rooms were caring and nice. I hope I can find some people like that here. Thanks for your support! |
